The pageant event didn’t occur until 1995. The event was hosted in Lenoir, North Carolina and there were 8 contestants. This turned out to be an attention getter. This event is now the main focus of the New Year organization because traditionally everyone wants to have a good role model for the Hmong people. And this meant selecting an individual who had talent, intelligence, good appearance and a positive attitude toward the Hmong people and life. This event has now grown from four to five pageants to ten to twelve pageants.

Mr. HSP Pageant

The Mr. HSP Pageant didn't occur until 2004. It was founded by the Youth group in 2003 crowing the first Mr. HSP to "Kong Lor of Morganton, NC." Kong Lor became the Youth Coordinator for HSP during the following year and organzied 2 more successful pageants.
